2017 State Scholastic Championship

February 24, 2017 by Carolyn

Last weekend, the 2017 State Scholastic Championships was held. What a fantastic weekend of Chess!
Chessmates was proud to have 56 players attend and play in the two day tournament at the Tivoli student union in Denver. We had some great results and all our players played their hearts out. One exceptional student was Tyler Thieszen winning the k-3 section! Right behind him in second place was Liberty student Isabelle Knowles! Our other individual placers were:
K-3 section:
Tyler Thieszen 1st place,
Isabelle Knowles 2nd place,
Annie Tao 4th place,
and Jesse Andersen 9th place
4-6 grade section:
Andrew Roerty 6th place
Kary Fang 8th place
7-8th grade section:
Felix Yu 6th place
Sami Al-adsani 7th place
Isaac Mount 8th place
David Gao 10th place
9th-12th grade section:
Suhaas Narayanan 5th place
We also had some teams that did an awesome job:
In the 4th-6th grade section Ridgeview won 3rd place with 14.5 points!
In the 7-8th grade section Ridgeview classical school won with 15.5 points!
Kinard after being a 3 time state champion got second place with 14.5 points!
