Check out the awesome time had by more than 75 campers at Chessmates 7th Annual Summer chess Camp! Held between June 20-24, 2016! Celebrity coach Keaton Kiewra was fantastic. The campers were able to take in plenty of chess wisdom from Keaton and the rest of our great coaching staff.
This year at Summer chess camp we had plenty of new and returning faces. The whole group worked well together and accomplished many feats over the week. One such example is Kary Fang pulling out the only draw versus Keaton Kiewra in the simul. Congratulations Kary!
Of course there were several intense matches and plenty of practice problems to indulge the students. With all the concentration and mental fortitude the week would require, we also made sure to get outside and have some fun!
Every year our Summer camp has lots of great activities this year being no difference. We played a tournament throughout the week that consisted of 8 serious games. These games we reviewed and learned from as well as handed out some nice trophies to players who won the most games in their group.
Our Summer chess camp coaches were International master Keaton Kiewra, National master Gunnar Andersen, National master Zachary Bekkedahl, Candidate master Brad Lundstrom, our newest coach Lesley-Ann Knee and Expert beginner coach Bob Grant. Each coach devised lesson plans for the whole week based on his groups skill levels. We also switched coaches around so each group got to see different coaches. Everyone got to work with our international master and two national master coaches at our Summer chess camp!
One of our Summer chess camp participant who did a fantastic job was 4 year old Trevor Thieszen! You can never start chess too young and he was a great example as he not only knew all the rules but won many games. He also played students much older than him!
Were looking forward to having even more students in our Fort Collins Colorado chess camp!
