Registration Cut-Off is the Thursday before a tournament.
Late Registration and Day of Registration will still occur, HOWEVER you MAY get a round one bye and cost is $30.
Day of registration ENDS at 8:30am.

Check-In Times

8:15 am*
*everyone needs to show up by 8:30 or you get a 0 pt bye for the first round.
If you are registering day of please show up a little early. “Day of” registration fee is $30 and registration ends at 8:30 am sharp.

Players are divided by grade, or level if they are rated (800+).
Our sections are: K-1st grade,  2nd-3rd, 4th-5th, 6th-12th grade, and rated below 800 (USCFID required), rated above 800 (USCFID required).

If we do not have at least 8 players we will have to combine sections. If you are unsure of your section please sign up under your grade and we will move you if need be.

Finer Details

Tournaments will have 5 rounds, everyone plays all rounds. Each round is roughly an hour.
We have trophies for 1st – 3rd in each sections.

We supply all chess boards. All rules will be reviewed during players meeting at the start of the tournament. 

Tournaments usually last until 2:30 pm.

Refund Policy

Refunds will only be granted with 48 hour notice before the start of tournament. You will get a credit to a future Chessmates tournament.

Child supervision

Chessmates does not have enough staff to watch all players. Any elementary level students must be supervised by a parent, a team mom, a friend or any supervisor over the age of 18.

Lunch

Lunch will not be provided please bring a pack lunch, or plan to bring lunch back to the venue for participants. There is not enough time between rounds to eat lunch at a restaurant and come back in time for your round.

Concessions

There will be no concessions.

USCF ID

Player rated 800 and above must have a valid and current USCF ID. If you are not sure, don’t worry about it we will let you know if you need one.
To renew or sign up please visit uschess.org
Grade sections do not have to register for USCF.
If our rating system puts you above 800, we will move you up to the next section and have you become a United States Chess Federation member.
