Welcome to this week’s featured player:

Annie T.

Annie is in the 3rd Grade, and just placed 4th at State. Congratulations! Let’s learn more about Annie.
When did you start playing Chess? Why?
I started to play chess when I was five. Because my friend, she is also my neighbor, told me that the morning chess club in our school full of fun.
How old were you when you first beat your parent?
I taught my parents most of the rules, pieces and how they move. When I was seven I got chances to beat both of them.
What is your most memorable game?
My most memorable game was the last round at the CSCA Scholastic State Championship K-3 section. I played with a tough player to me. I knew if I won, I could got a trophy; but if I lost, the trophy I could win or not was based on my other opponents’ scores. But I beat him at the end.
What is your favorite piece? Why?
The queen because it is all the pieces combined except the knight.
Is your favorite part of the game opening, middle game, or endgame?
My favorite part of the game is the middle game, which is the most complicate and full of changing part. It is also when the ACTION and STRATEGY really begins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whats your favorite chess opening?
The King’s Gambit because I think it really helps you develop pieces by giving away a pawn.
Are you more of an aggressive or defensive chess player? Explain.
I am an aggressive player since I like the King’s gambit opening.
What is your favorite chess memory?
When I was six, I got a birthday gift which was a set of chess in an elegant wood box with my name on top.
What is your goal for your chess in the next year or two years?
My goal for the next two years is to beat everyone I play against in tournaments and practice games.
What is your favorite chess book?
I haven’t finished any chess books yet. but I already started one about chess strategy.
How do you think chess most helps you in day to day life?
It helps you be patient, calm down, focus and think carefully.
What do you enjoy besides chess?
I enjoy reading books. I also like jump rope, running, gymnastic and play in chimes choir. I sometimes like piano depending on what piece I am playing.
