Welcome to the new school year and another Featured Player.

Tyson is entering the 10th Grade and has been playing chess since the second grade.

When did you start playing Chess? Why?
2nd grade (2010) because I had heard of it and it seemed fun and sophisticated
How old were you when you first beat your parent?
Age 7-8
What is your most memorable game?
I beat a 1580 player when I was only 1300 in a very solid game.
What is your favorite piece? Why?
Rook, I like how it plays in endgames but queens are scary 🙁
Is your favorite part of the game opening, middle game, or endgame?
Endgame by far.
Whats your favorite chess opening?
Ruy Lopez
Are you more of an aggressive or defensive chess player? Explain.
Defensive, I don’t know how to attack well and only do when given an excellent opportunity
What is your favorite chess memory?
Last chess summer camp, it was really fun
What is your goal for your chess in the next year or two years?
Gain 100 rating points hopefully
What is your favorite chess book?
I don’t know
How do you think chess most helps you in day to day life?
It is a distraction from video games and is an exercise for the brain
What do you enjoy besides chess?
Video games, cheeseburgers, reading
